How NOT to pack a DVR

Damaged DVR

Through the process of technical support we may find the computer motherboard is fried from that lightning storm or a hard drive has crashed. Repair services include system repair, upgrade, and data retrieval. For that the DVR must be shipped here as safely as possible.

I have found when shipping a computer insured so that it is hand carried, however there is no guarantee how it is set down. FedEx shipping is preferred, and insured for $5000.00; or the replacemet cost of a working DVR.

Single layers of bubble wrap and bubble pillows is discouraged as bubbles can burst. If bubble wrap must be used, wrap several layers all around the DVR. For older rack mount cases: Instapak foam in place packaging has probably the best system I've seen for packing any computer for shipment.

Package the DVR in a sturdy box suffiently larger than the DVR to allow for packing material. Double box if at all possible. Add extra padding in front of any access doors and handles, as they can no longer be found for legacy DigiView's.

Please email me for a Return Material Authorization, or RMA. Also provide any serial numbers you can find on the unit My shipping address will be provided when the RA is submitted.
Thank You,
Alan Phillips
DigiView Repair

For your information

First a little history:

Most Kodicom based DigiView DVR's distributed by Digitech International crossed my work bench during six years of gate entry / security access / door alarm technical support, and six years of DigiView testing and repair while employed at Digitech, formerly based in Asheville North Carolina. Unfortunately, DigiView testing, purchase, and warranty records were purged during a corporate acquisition and no longer support DigiView and LogixView. However, with valuable knowledge, experience, and resources gained from 12 years of support (and experimentation) at Digitech, I provide information and services relating to these camera surveillance recorders as accurately as possible. Support may include remote access to your router, DigiView, or computer for configuration purposes.

Digitech technical support for DigiView and DigiGate products was once provided at no charge. PTI Security Systems has graciously picked up the ball and still supports many Digigate products in addition to retaining long term technical support staff. DigiView support and repair is however, no longer free and may incur technical support fees. Travel fees to areas outside of Western North Carolina may also apply. Initial consultation within reason may be waived.

This DigiView(tm), with its larger capacity, affords the user all the outstanding features of the smaller units, but with increased capacity. "Image file size is one of the most important aspects of considering which DVR to select," says Alan Phillips, Digitech's Information Technology Specialist. "Our proprietary software generates a clearly superior image, and compresses it to a file size of only 6 kilobytes, compared to others that chew up much more hard drive storage space with their average file size of 25kb to 50kb files."

DigiView's(tm) unique design employs two hard drives rather than just one. "We dedicate a drive to handle the system operations and control functions," says Phillips. "That makes the second drive available for nothing but archiving images. The scheme makes the process far more efficient and reliable."
